"I Wish" Speech

The city that never sleeps, that's where I wanna be. Although it costs a lot of money, every time I step foot in this place, I tell myself, "this is where I wanna live."

 (look up)

From visiting Central Park, to roaming
around Times Square, to staring straight up at the Empire State Building. Visiting the NHL store or taking a walk down to look at the most famous arena on earth.

(look up)

The hundreds of thousand tourists and the warm wonderful smell of the roasted peanuts being sold on the sidewalk stands, this city is like no other and the opportunities and activities are endless

(look up)

I visit my uncles apartment maybe every two months and every time I need to head back to CT, I cant do it. There's something about it, there's something about that beautiful skyline all lit up at night.

(look up)

My
favorite time to visit is Christmas time with all the lights and ornaments set up, all the stores and historic skyscrapers carefully decorated, you cant beat it.

(look up)

Most importantly, you cant beat the fact of living in the best city in the world. There's no where else id rather be.

(look up)

I think about it every day and the picture of seeing myself living in this amazing city motivates me to do well in school and to go to college.

(look up)

The city that never sleeps, known as new york city, is where I wish to live

Speech Reflection

A good speech gets the point you are trying to make across to the audience. A good speech consists of ways to keep the audience engaged. Most importantly, a good speech makes eye contact and shows the audience that you know what you are talking about instead of reading while reading with much confidence. Pronunciation of words and being able to stand straight up while talking in front of a big crowd is very important as well. The audience as well as these things presented above, has to be able to understand what you (the speaker) is saying as well, not mumbling is key in this situation

Throughout my "I Am" Speech I think I mastered most of these things. However, I did speak a little too quickly for my likings. I think if I slowed down a little while reading it would have definitely been a better presented speech but as a whole, I think the pace I spoke at was pretty good but has potential to be better in my next speech. I also think instead of reading full sentences at a time without making eye contact with the audience, I should have read a sentence and then looked up and then read another sentence and then looked up which in this case would have slowed down the speech a little more as well as allowed me to make more eye contact with the audience. I think my posture was well, I stood up straight but also had some room to become a little more relaxed while being up there. I think my confidence while speaking could have also been a tiny bit better. By having confidence when speaking, it allows the speaker as a whole to present the speech better in every aspect and catergory of skills when public speaking. However, overall I think for my first speech in this class, all around it was a good one with some minor errors along the way that could be fixed during my next speech and most importantly during the rest of my speeches throughout this semester in Public Speaking

"I Am" Speech

I am in love with the game of hockey. I remember the day i turned on the TV, sitting nice and cozy,

cuddled up next to my dad, watching my first NHL hockey game

(pause, look at crowd)

Ever since then I couldn't stop, I

fell in love with the game and its something that has really shaped me into who I am today

(pause, look at crowd)

I remember that day I came home from kindergarten and dad told me he signed me up for learn to

skate. Nothing but butterflies going through my stomach realizing that this was the first time I was

going to be stepping on the ice

(pause, look at crowd)

When dad and I got into the rink, I looked around at all the people

skating, realizing that i wasn't going to be the only one out there and beginning to get really nervous

(pause, look at crowd)

We sat down, dad took out my skates and put them on me. Wearing these for the first time in my life,

they felt a little weird. "Alright son," he said, "get out there." I took one stride and never started

crying harder in my life but my dad refused to let me off the ice, so I figured Id keep going

(pause, look at crowd)

Ever since then, I cant thank my dad enough. I found my passion, my life and something I will love

till the day I die. My dad believed in me and because of that, I couldn't be more grateful

Public Speaking Blog

My name is Shane Ward from Glastonbury, CT and I am a junior here at Cheshire Academy. I've decided to take public speaking because ill admit, I get nervous when it comes to talking in front of big crowds. Which is why I took this class, to gain the confidence to do so. I am a hockey player and also play baseball in the spring on top of playing spring hockey as well. I have two sisters, one older and one younger and I live with my sisters, mom and dad in Glastonbury because I am a day student at CA. Something I really consider myself being is a hard worker, I definitely do my best to strive to be the best I can be on and off the ice. School work, grades and learning is something I also definitely take pride in and also want to do very well in. When I grow older I would like to be an accountant because I enjoy doing math and I take pride in doing it. However, to be successful in getting a good job or even just talking to someone or a group of people in general is very important. Which is why I'm here, to gain the skills to do so. Throughout the experience of taking Public Speaking, id like to develop and fix my posture when speaking, also work on my pronunciation of long and difficult words or wordings in my speeches and lastly and the most important, gaining enough confidence to do so. I enjoy learning and I think by the end of this semester my skills of being able to be a Public Speaker will increase tremendously
